Our application period is the same every year (from February 15th through April 15th). Applications can only be completed and submitted online, via the form below.
Tuition awards are made for one year only, so you must re-apply each year. Applicants are notified as to whether or not they're getting a tuition award by early June each year.
We treat all applications with discretion. However, please be aware that in applying, you are accepting that your application will be retained in our files, that we will make copies of it and that it will be reviewed and discussed with multiple individuals, including members of our board and of our awards committee. Your name, school district, college, major and/or other basic information concerning your tuition award may be published. If you are unwilling to accept these conditions, please do not apply.
TMF tuition awards function as interest-free loans. All TMF recipients accept, in writing, an obligation to fully repay their tuition awards. TMF asks that recipients begin reliable monthly repayments starting a few months after they either a) graduate from a program or b) discontinue their education. Do not apply if you're not willing to fully repay your award.
Even if you aren't chosen for a tuition award one year, we still encourage you to re-apply the following year if you still need financial help. Your circumstances (or ours) may have changed and though we had to say "no" one year doesn't ever mean that it's "no" every year.
We use the word "college" to denote ANY education beyond high school: college/university; trade school or vocational/technical training; a licensure or certification program; or graduate school. We make tuition awards for any education beyond high school.
2024 - 2025 application
Our application must be completed in a single session. We do not provide a way for you to "save" and return to it, so please don't start the application until you’re certain you have enough time to complete and submit it. We recommend that you gather together all necessary financial and tax information before starting. Typically, this is the tax information for your parents from their 2023 tax return. Assuming that you have this information in front of you, it’s our experience that most students only need 10 to 15 minutes to complete the application.
Though we recognize that parents may help, the application must be completed from the standpoint of the applicant WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FINANCIAL SECTION FOR MOST APPLICANTS. Please pay very close attention to the details of the financial section.
DO NOT APPLY unless you accept that you must make RELIABLE, MONTHLY repayments on your tuition award. You will not be asked to begin repayments until several months after you graduate or discontinue your education. If the TOTAL you owe is more than $5,000, monthly repayments must be a minimum of between one-half of one percent and one percent (0.5% to 1.0%). If the TOTAL you owe is $5,000 or less, your monthly repayments must be a minimum of one percent (1.0%).
If you are not yet certain which college you're attending, we ask you to WAIT to apply until closer to the end of the application period. Knowing for sure what school you're going to helps us calculate your total award with greater accuracy.
NOTE: Applications submitted to us with incomplete, inaccurate or unclear information will be deleted. This is not texting; please take the time to use capital letters, punctuation, etc., as it makes our job evaluating your application easier. This means don’t put your name as (for instance) dave blythe, or D blythe, but David Gilmour Blythe. Applicants may re-do and re-submit their applications in such cases, as long as they take care to do so before the application deadline on April 15th. Please take your time, read the directions carefully, and do it right the first time.
